Dexter wins 14-0 at Penquis in five innings

MILO — The Dexter Regional High School softball team broke open a 4-0 lead at Penquis Valley High School with five runs in both the fourth and fifth innings to top the Patriots 14-0 in five innings during a Class C North contest on Monday afternoon.

The Tigers ended a very brief two-game losing skid to improve to 3-2 several weeks into the regular season while the Patriots fell to 0-4 in the first meeting on the softball diamond between the two regional rivals since 2023 after Penquis did not field a team in 2024. The shutout is the first of the year for Dexter and was the first time this season Penquis did not send anyone home.

Dexter limited the Patriots to just five baserunners in as many innings with only three of these players getting into scoring position.

FIELDER’S CHOICE — Dexter’s Maddisyn Davis catches the throw at second from shortstop Kallie Stone to get Addalai Perkins of Penquis out on the force play during the fourth inning of a game in Milo on Monday. The visiting Tigers won 14-0 in five innings.

In the home half of the first, Penquis leadoff hitter Makayla Cook was hit by a pitch and she then quickly stole second. A groundout by Amara Driscoll moved Cook to third but she ended up getting stranded there as one of four runners left on base for the Patriots.

Dexter pitcher Claire Fogler helped limit the opposition’s chances with seven strikeouts in her five innings of work. Folger scattered three hits and walked just one in addition to Cook reaching base.

Eight members of the Tiger lineup reached base with six having hits and three having a multiple-hit game.

AHEAD OF THE THROW — Abagail Trafton scores on a wild pitch during the top of the fifth, ahead of a throw to Penquis catcher Brooklyn Decker with Dexter’s Desiree Adams looking on.

Clean-up hitter Kayleigh Dunton led all players with a trio of hits, going 3-for-4 with each hit being good for extra bases. Dunton tripled and doubled twice to drive in four runs.

Out of the leadoff spot, Abagail Trafton reached base in all four of her plate appearances. She singled twice and walked twice and scored five runs.

Maddisyn Davis finished 2-for-4 while batting second, driving in a run and scoring twice herself.
