DOGE looking for fraud in the wrong places

To the Editor;

The Republicans in Washington appear to be obsessed with Medicaid fraud just as they were about voter fraud before each election. That paranoia of course turned out to amount to nothing.

There is nothing wrong with guarding against financial fraud as long as it is applied evenly. But if it is a high priority concern why would you applaud DOGE, in all its wisdom, firing 6,000 IRS employees whose job it’s been to ferret out tax fraud? By one evaluation these auditors were doing an excellent job, especially with high-income tax cheats, and were recovering for the U.S. Treasury much more than their cost to taxpayers.

Yet when it is a low-income individual with a partial disability suspected of receiving a few extra hundred dollars in SNAP benefits, our GOP watchdogs are ready to call out the cavalry.

There must be a term for this. Oh yes here it is: hypocrisy.
