Three Ponies swim at Class B championship

BRUNSWICK — Three Foxcroft Academy students took part in the 2025 Class B swimming & diving championships as members of the Old Town-based Northern Penobscot team at Bowdoin College on Feb. 17-18.

In the girls competition on Feb. 17 Foxcroft senior Maddy Gaylor swam the first leg of the Northern Penobscot 200-yard medley relay team that came in fifth in a time of 2 minutes, 4.28 seconds.

Gaylord swam the second leg of the seventh-place 400 freestyle relay finish as Northern Penobscot’s time was 4:15.37.

She also finished 24th in the 100 backstroke standings with her time of 1:15.00.

The Northern Penobscot girls came in ninth among 13 teams with a score of 102 points.

State championship honors went to Camden Hills Regional High School with 437 points. Cape Elizabeth High School was second with 363 points and Mount Desert Island High School came in third at 263 points.

Sophomore Dean Gallagher and freshman Jack Gallagher swam for Northern Penobscot at the boys Class B championship on Feb. 18.

Dean Gallagher opened Northern Penobscot’s ninth-place 400 freestyle relay as the squad swam a time of 3:56.48.

Dean and Jack Gallagher were the first two swimmers in the Northern Penobscot 200 freestyle relay as they and their two teammates combined to place 11th at 1:51.85.

Dean Gallagher came in 17th in the 100 butterfly at 1:06.02.

Northern Penobscot ended the day eighth of 15 teams with 110 points.

Morse High School of Bath won the title at 424.5 points. Greely High School of Cumberland came in second at 299.5 points and Ellsworth High School was third with 283.
