PCHS’ Goulette wins shot put

ORONO — Piscataquis Community High School junior Ava Goulette earned top honors in the shot put during a Penobscot Valley Conference/Eastern Maine Indoor Track League meet on Saturday, Feb. 1 at the University of Maine’s New Balance Field House. The PCHS girls tallied a score of 27 points to place fifth among a field of 10 teams picking up points.

Goulette had a top throw of 35 feet, 7 inches in the shot, besting the second-place distance of 34-05 for Bucksport High School senior Natalie Simpson by 14 inches.

Pirate sophomore Ava Edes came in second in the high jump by clearing the bar at 4-08. Edes also finished fourth in the 55-meter hurdle finals in a time of 9.85 seconds.

PCHS’ 4×200 relay team was fifth overall and fourth among squads eligible for points. Juniors Sadie Kelley, Molly Goodwin, Edes, and Judith Jannsen together ran a time of 2:05.07.

Jannsen added a sixth-place finish in the triple jump at a distance of 31-07.

The PCHS boys were ninth among nine schools with one point.

Sophomore Phoenix Brown placed sixth in the triple jump with his top leap measuring 35 feet.
