Psychological first aid course prepares for responding to traumatic experiences
GREENVILLE — When a traumatic incident at school, at work, or in the community occurs, people may experience painful and debilitating emotional distress. Psychological first aid provides support to reduce the short and long-term impact of the trauma.
Northern Light Acadia and CA Dean Hospitals are offering two free training sessions for individuals who would like to learn to provide psychological first aid. Educators, law enforcement, firefighters, healthcare workers, and others who may face crises and other traumatic situations will benefit most from being trained in psychological first aid.
Developed by the National Child Traumatic Stress Network and the National Center for PTSD, PFA emphasizes the importance of early intervention in preventing long-term mental health issues. This training will equip participants with the skills to make a positive impact on the lives of those who have experienced traumatic events, such as a sudden loss, a disaster, or being a victim of a crime.
The four-hour course will be offered on Thursday, Feb. 20 and again on Wednesday, May 28 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Bartley’s Center Cove Events. Registration is required by calling 207-631-1922 or emailing ndephillips@northernlight.org.
