FA’s Donahue wins three track events

ORONO — Foxcroft Academy junior Conner Donahue earned top honors in the 200 and long and triple jumps at a Penobscot Valley Conference/Eastern Maine Indoor Track League meet on the morning of Saturday, Jan. 25 at the University of Maine’s New Balance Field House. Donahue accounted for 30 of the Ponies’ 38 points as the team came in fifth among a field of eight schools picking up points.

Donahue ran a top time of 24.27 seconds in the 200 meters, just ahead of the 24.53 seconds for runner-up senior Tyler Wilkinson of John Bapst Memorial High School of Bangor.

In the long jump, Donahue achieved a top distance of 20 feet, 7 inches. This was four inches further than runner-up Old Town High School senior William Francis’ 20-03.

Donahue won the triple jump at 39-08.50, 9.5 inches more than the 38-11 for Penquis Valley High School senior Lucas Chai.

Foxcroft senior Jaxson Zimmerman placed second in the shot put with his heave of 40-05.50 for eight more points for the Ponies.

The Penquis boys picked up 20 points to come in eighth, with Patriot junior Jareth Williams winning the 55 meters.

In the 55-meter finals, Williams crossed the finish line in 7.01 seconds. He edged Wilkinson by the narrowest of margins at 7.01 to 7.02 seconds. Williams also was fifth in the 200 in a time of 25.65 seconds as his two sprints and Chai’s long jump performance accounted for the 20 points.

In the girls’ meet, Piscataquis Community High School finished seventh among 10 teams with a score of 20 points.

Pirate freshman Ava Edes came in second in the high jump at 4-08. She also was third in the 55-hurdle finals with a time of 10.01 seconds. She ran the third leg of the sixth-place 4×200 relay as junior Sadie Kelley and Molly Goodwin, Edes, and junior Judith Jannsen combined for a time of 2:06.76.

Jannsen was also fourth in the triple jump at a distance of 30-04.

Foxcroft Academy senior Nina Huber ran a time of 2:57.64 in the 800 to finish third. These six points put the Ponies 10th in the team standings.
