Piscataquis Democrats commemorate Martin Luther King, Jr. Day

DOVER-FOXCROFT — Piscataquis County Democrats gathered on Jan. 19 at the Central Hall Commons to commemorate Martin Luther King, Jr. Day and in gratitude for the many volunteers who served the County during the 2024 campaign. Those assembled enjoyed the music of Some Reel People whose music set the tone for the afternoon by playing American classics such as “The Times They Are a-Changing” by Bob Dylan, and “This Land is Your Land, This Land is My Land” by Woody Guthrie.

Local Democrats also enjoyed a delicious lunch of sandwiches, various trays of cheese, vegetables, and fruit as well as homemade desserts and soft drinks.

The inspirational program featured video clips of Rev. Martin Luther King and remarks by Dr. Richard Evans, Lou Sidell, Joe Brown, and Forrest Genthner. The speakers challenged those gathered to further the social justice movement of MLK, Jr. by supporting vulnerable and marginalized communities and working to end oppression.

Andrea Thurlow, chair of the Piscataquis County Democrats Service Committee, encouraged the group to continue their support of the Piscataquis Regional Food Center by raising $700 plus by Feb. 8. If accomplished, local Democrats will have donated $10,000 to the food center over the last few years. Those who wish to donate to this fund can do so online at https://secure.actblue.com/donate/pcdcservice or by mailing a check to PCDC at POB 133, Dover-Foxcroft, ME 04426.
