Center Theatre to screen film on homelessness in Maine
DOVER-FOXCROFT – The Center Theatre will host a special screening of the documentary film “Building Hope”, which explores the complex issues surrounding homelessness in Maine. The film will be shown free of charge on Sunday, Jan. 19 at 3 p.m. “Building Hope” examines the personal stories of individuals experiencing homelessness, as well as the systemic factors contributing to the crisis, such as lack of affordable housing, substance use disorder, and domestic violence.
“Building Hope” highlights the challenges and struggles of people facing homelessness, while also showing the work being done to help. The film features interviews with individuals who have experienced homelessness, as well as advocates working to address the issue. The documentary emphasizes that despite the suffering, there is hope and that everyone can contribute to making a difference.
Following the screening there will be a discussion led by Jennifer Weatherbee Lolar, Homeless Response Service Hub coordinator for Community Health and Counseling Services and Jennifer Dunton, project coordinator for the Host Homes Program at Penquis. The screening of “Building Hope” and discussion will be an opportunity for the community to gain insights into this important issue, and to consider how they can be part of the solution.
