Center Theatre announces auditions for two 2025 shows
DOVER-FOXCROFT – The Center Theatre for the Performing Arts is thrilled to announce open auditions for its 2025 spring musical production of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s classic “Oklahoma!” and for the contemporary play “Small Mouth Sounds” to be performed in March.
The theatre will produce the beloved musical “Oklahoma!” in May, featuring live musical accompaniment thanks to a generous anonymous donor. Additionally, all performers cast in “Oklahoma!” will receive stipends — $250 for leads and $100 for other roles.
Auditions for “Oklahoma!” will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 4 and 5 at the Center Theatre, 20 East Main Street. Callbacks, if needed, are scheduled for 5 p.m. on Jan. 11 and 12. Those auditioning should be at least 15 years old. Auditioners will be asked to read from the script and perform a short a cappella piece of their choice.
“Small Mouth Sounds” by Bess Wohl offers a contrasting theatrical experience. This contemporary play follows six individuals at a silent retreat, exploring themes of suffering, connection, and the limitations of language as they grapple with their inner turmoil. Actors must convey emotions and build relationships through nonverbal communication in this unique, largely silent production.
Auditions for “Small Mouth Sounds” require actors to be at least 18 years old. Those auditioning are asked to read Hamlet’s monologue from Act III, Scene 1. While memorization is not required, preparation for the reading is encouraged. Performances of “Small Mouth Sounds” are scheduled at 7 p.m. on Friday, March 28 and 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Saturday, March 29.
Those wishing to audition for either “Oklahoma!” or “Small Mouth Sounds” should visit the theatre website www.centertheatre.org for more information and to complete the online audition registration form.
