Pair of Ponies and Tigers run at Class C cross country championships

CUMBERLAND — Two runners from the Foxcroft Academy and Dexter Regional High School cross country teams ran in the Class C championships on Saturday, Nov. 2 at  the Twin Brook Recreation Area.

In the boys meet, Foxcroft senior Runner Jarrett covered the 5K course in a time of 18 minutes, 35.50 seconds. This was good for 24th place among 110 entrants. For Jarrett the berth in the state championship was the third of his career, following the 2023 Class C championship and Class B finals in 2022.

Pony sophomore Pace Jarrett came in 40th with his time of 19:19.79. The state championship appearance was Jarrett’s second.

Orono High School senior Ben Arsenault won the race in 16:54.46, besting second place by about 10 seconds.

Arsenault helped the Red Riots finish first among 14 full teams with a score of 32 points. Orono held less than a third of the 109 points for runner-up George Stevens Academy of Blue Hill. The Houlton High School/Greater Houlton Christian Academy cooperative came in third with 142 points.

In the girls meet Dexter freshman Ella McClintock-Hatch ran the course in 23:17.19, good for 28th place among 81 entrants. 

Tiger junior Annabelle Peakes finished 31st with her time of 23:31.24.

Houlton/GHCA senior Teanne Ewings earned top honors by running a time of 18:38.95, about 22 seconds before the second-place finisher.

The Waynflete School of Portland claimed the team title with 57 points, just ahead of the 60 for Houlton/GHCA. The Boothbay Regional High School/Wiscasset High School squad was third with 84 points as nine girls teams took part in the state meet.
