Piscataquis Democrats donate to Piscataquis Regional Food Center

DOVER-FOXCROFT — The Piscataquis Community Democrats continue to help those struggling with food insecurity. At local fairs this summer, Democrats raffled off at their booth a battery-operated chainsaw. With the money raised, on Oct. 2 they were able to present Kelly Sirimoglu, executive director of the Piscataquis Regional Food Center, a $1,000 check plus cereal and hearty soups.

Sirimoglu shared how greatly funds are needed as the households requiring food assistance continues to rise. The food center provides for 190 households a week with the fastest growing number served being children, with 300 recipients currently. Also, more working families are turning to the food center, as even with both parents working they struggle to pay their bills.
