Dexter golf finishes second at Class C championship

VASSALBORO — The Dexter Regional High School golf team finished in second place at the 2024 Class C championship on Saturday, Oct. 12 at Natanis Golf Course.

The Tigers ended the day with a score of 350 points, second-fewest among the 13 qualifying schools and trailing only the 347 for champion Maranacook Community High School of Readfield. Dexter was also a point ahead of the 351 for the third-place Kents Hill School.

The state championship is the second for Maranacook, which also won the Class C title two years prior in 2022.

Chase Farnsworth led Dexter by finishing in fourth place in the individual standings with his score of 82. A total of 87 golfers were at the Class C competition.

The Tigers’ Wyatt was part of a 3-way tie for 11th place as he shot an 86.

Ryan Farnsworth, Ethan Doherty, and Cole Doherty were three of five golfers to tie for 30th place with a score of 91 apiece.

Will Sampson was one of seven at the state championship to shoot a 97 and tie for 53rd place.

Michael Bruce of Fort Fairfield High School won the individual championship with his score of 77. Alex Grimaldi of Spruce Mountain of Jay was the runner-up at 79, followed by David Tuttle of Hodgdon High School in third place with his score of 81.

Foxcroft Academy’s Calvin Landry was part of a 5-way tie for 48th place with a score of 96.

Oliviah Turner of Greenville High School came in 14th in the girls’ Class C competition with her score of 126.

Amelie Zachrinson of Kents Hill won the girls title by shooting a 93.

The performance at the school championships comes a week and after Dexter earned its third consecutive Penobscot Valley Conference title. Farnsworth was named PVC Class C Golf Player of the Year.

The Tigers qualified for the Class C championship for the fourth season in a row. In Dexter 2023 finished in a tie for eighth place with a score of 357, in 2022 Dexter came in third at 348, and in 2021 the team was sixth with a score of 369.
