Dr. Evans for Senate District 4

To the Editor:

This Nov. 5 Rich Evans, D-Dover-Foxcroft is running for the Maine State Senate District 4 (if you are reading this, you are probably in District 4). Rich was born into poverty in Houston Texas, one of seven children living in an uninsulated, 2-bedroom house with no running water or air conditioning. Neither of his parents graduated from high school, but they were passionate about ensuring their children had access to higher education.

Rich not only went on to medical school, but had a distinguished military career in leadership in the US Air Force. He had a surgical practice in Machias and, eventually, Dover Foxcroft. He served in the Maine Legislature from 2020-22 and while there sponsored seven bills, six of which were passed into law, including Maine’s yellow flag law, and one to maximize health care coverage. Some of his goals this time around include reducing property taxes and rental costs by maintaining municipal revenue sharing for fire, police, and roads; supporting public education; saving money by protecting our natural resources, through better waste management and local energy generation; making health care more affordable and accessible; creating jobs that include a liveable wage; and humanely bringing the opioid crisis to an end.

Former Sen. Paul Davis, R-Sangerville has been quoted by the Piscataquis Observer as having said that Rich is an “Excellent surgeon, nice man and a good guy,” though Davis would probably disagree with him on political philosophy. Please vote for Rich this Nov. 5.
