Breakin’ Strings to perform at the Center Theatre Friday

DOVER-FOXCROFT — The Center Theatre is excited to welcome the renowned bluegrass band Breakin’ Strings to its stage for a one-of-a-kind concert event. The show will take place at the Center Theatre on Friday, Sept. 27 at 7 p.m. Tickets are $20 at the door, with a special $17 price for advance purchases and Center Theatre members.

Breakin’ Strings, a Nashville recording group, is known for their electrifying performances that combine traditional bluegrass with dynamic, jam-grass vibes. Formed over 18 years ago, the band recently reunited after a decade-long hiatus, and their sound is stronger than ever. Led by Cliff Gelina on vocals, the band features the talents of Cody Howe, Sam Acus, Amanda Gelina, Steve Petterson, and David Bevin — a lineup of some of New England’s finest musicians.

The band’s music is a mix of hard-driving bluegrass and powerful ballads, filled with tight harmonies and impressive instrumentals. Gelina’s vocals have drawn comparisons to Chris Stapleton, while Howe’s guitar playing is often likened to the legendary Tony Rice. Mandolinist Acus brings explosive energy to every performance, while Gelina on bass, and Petterson on banjo, provide the rhythmic and harmonic foundation that completes their sound.

Breakin’ Strings recorded their debut album “Hangovers & Heartaches” at the legendary Blackbird Studios in Nashville and it was released in September 2022. They’ve been featured in Bluegrass Unlimited Magazine, The Bluegrass Standard, and Nashville Voyager Magazine, and were an IBMA Showcase Band in 2022. Their latest single “Stones” was released in 2023, and the band is preparing to record their upcoming album “Home Grown” later this year.

Joining Breakin’ Strings for this special performance is local blues favorite Troy Youngblood, ensuring an unforgettable night of music that will delight fans of bluegrass and blues alike.
