Choose country over party

To the Editor;

It started with Joe Biden. He loves our country and wanted to run again. But he came to the realization that he had to put country over party, so he stepped aside. At the convention the delegates resoundingly chose Kamala Harris, and Joe Biden supported that decision.

Next, over 200 Republican staffers signed an open letter endorsing Kamala Harris for president. They too put country over party and warned that a second Trump term would hurt everyday Americans and weaken our institutions. This week, a group of 10 former admirals and generals stepped up to say ”Kamala Harris is the best — and only — presidential candidate in this race who is fit to serve as our commander-in-chief.”

Trump’s own Vice President Mike Pence will not endorse him. Former President George Bush will not endorse him. His Vice President Dick Cheney announced he will vote for Harris. Liz Cheney and Adam Kinsinger, who have been outspoken critics, will vote for Harris. These diehard Republicans have probably never voted for a Democrat in their lives. But they’re choosing country over party.

I hope Americans will listen to their warnings and not the guy who has a real fondness for dictators. The guy who said he’d be a dictator on day one and tried very hard to overturn an election. The man who suggested shooting protesters. The convicted felon, and so much more.

Even if you don’t fully support Harris, she’s only there for four years. In 2028 I’m sure you can get a good candidate.

Please do what so many others have done, and vote country over party.
