Milo Garden Club Annual Fair and Plant Sale a blooming success

MILO — Though there are no official records, other than fond memories shared by long-time Milo Garden Club members, the annual summer fair has brought blossoms and fun to attendees for over 50 years.

The venue and offerings may have changed over time. However, Milo Garden Club’s motto has remained the same, “Strive to Brighten Today, Then Tomorrow.” This was apparent on Aug. 1 at the club’s annual Summer Fair and Plant Sale. Doors opened at 11 a.m. and by 11:30 a.m. over half of the perennials had been purchased by eager buyers and on their way to brighten new gardens.

Does the Milo Garden Club have a greenhouse to provide inventory for the fair? No, it does not. Instead, garden club members, community friends, and local growers are happy to donate the fruits of their labors from their own gardens. Because of the generosity of these donors, fair goers were delighted to find an exceptional number of houseplants available for purchase, this year.

SUMMER FAIR AND PLANT SALE — Long-time member, Ethelyn Treworgy admires perennials at Milo Garden Club’s Annual Summer Fair and Plant Sale on Aug. 1 at the Three Rivers Kiwanis campus in Milo.

A perennial favorite, Wyman’s Farm provided a fine selection of their produce; a long standing tradition in aid of the Milo Garden Club Fair. Adding to all the dietary offerings at this year’s fair were homemade preserves, small tubs of baked beans and small containers of coleslaw. Not to mention the tempting selection of home baked goodies, as well as the delightful luncheon made and served by Milo Garden Club members.

In addition to homegrown products, members and friends also donated beautiful handmade crafts as well as a variety of fine items which were placed up for bid at the silent auction. The variety of all these items certainly encouraged fair visitors to think about gift giving, collecting, or adding to their own home decor.

The Milo Garden Club Summer Fair and Plant Sale is an annual fundraiser. This year’s event was an overwhelming success. As always, proceeds from this event will benefit many non-profit organizations within Piscataquis and Penobscot counties as well as provide for plantings within the community which, without question, help to “brighten today, then tomorrow.

Milo Garden Club welcomes visitors and prospective members from any community. For more information, please contact Victoria at 207-943-2400.
