Andrews named interim head football coach at University of Chicago

CHICAGO, Illinois — Former Foxcroft Academy and SeDoMoCha Middle School football coach, and SeDoMoCha teacher and basketball and baseball coach, Max Andrews has been named the interim head football coach at the Div. III University of Chicago for the 2024 season.

Andrews was hired as offensive line coach for University of Chicago football in February 2023 and the Maroons would go 6-4 last season.

Andrews arrived in Chicago from the University of Maine football program. He held dual responsibilities as assistant offensive line coach and quality control coach for the Black Bears during the 2022 season.

After his playing days for the Black Bears, Andrews coached at both SeDoMoCha Middle School and Foxcroft Academy and he will serve as interim head coach at the University of Chicago for the upcoming season.

Previously, Andrews was the offensive line coach at Foxcroft Academy from 2018-21 after having coached at SeDoMoCha. He also contributed as special teams coordinator and strength & conditioning coach during his time on the Foxcroft Academy campus. The Ponies won the 2021 Class D championship during Andrews’ tenure.

Andrews played collegiately at University of Maine, where he started his career as a tight end for the Black Bears after having played his high school football at John Bapst Memorial High School of Bangor. He later switched positions to the offensive line and became an All-Colonial Athletic Conference center as a senior.

Andrews received his bachelor’s degree from Maine in elementary education.
