Capture Humanity launches film on human trafficking

DOVER FOXCROFT — Capture Humanity will screen the compelling film “Woman Rising” at the Center Theatre for the Performing Arts at 20 East Main Street at 7 p.m. on Saturday, July 27 in Dover-Foxcroft. This film tells the story of a courageous survivor of human sex trafficking and sheds light on the issue of human trafficking, its mechanisms, and community actions to combat this crime.

This film delves into the harsh realities of sex and human trafficking in America with a strong emphasis on the resilience and strength of the survivors. “This film features the life of a woman who was trafficked for nearly a decade and her quest to raise awareness of this terrible social issue. Human sex trafficking is a gender issue with a disproportionate number of those trafficked are women and trafficking continues to grow, especially in rural areas,” said Matilde Simas, founder of Capture Humanity.

Human trafficking statistics reveal a very sad reality for many individuals. Behind every stat is a person – someone’s mother, father, brother, or sister. These stats provide insight into the severity of the issue.

Today, there are 49.6 million people in modern slavery worldwide, and 12 million of them are children  (ILO, United Nations).

There were 88 million child sexual abuse material files reported to the National Center for Missing  and Exploited Children tip line in 2022.
