Local training provides path to a rewarding career in emergency medical services

DOVER-FOXCROFT — There are several reasons why people choose to work in emergency medical services: competitive pay, flexible schedules, job stability, career advancement opportunities, and the potential to save lives during every work shift. Now, the path to a career as an emergency medical technician is easier than ever thanks to a local training course offered by Northern Light Mayo Hospital and Eastern Maine Community College.

The 12-week training course, scheduled to begin on Sept. 4, will provide students with the skills needed to deliver basic emergency care and prepare graduates to take the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians certification exam.

“In only three months individuals can be ready to start a rewarding career in healthcare. A career in emergency medical services is a great option for anyone who is passionate about helping others. EMTs truly are the front line of the healthcare system, responding at a moment’s notice and making quick decisions in the moment to save lives,” says Crystal Bagley, A.A.S., manager of education and transport, Northern Light Medical Transport.

Anyone interested in learning more about the upcoming training course is invited to attend an information session on Monday, Aug. 5 at 1 pm at Mayo Hospital, 897 West Main Street. The information session will cover:

Class schedule and structure, application process and requirements to enroll, cost of the course and financial assistance, support available from local EMS services, and access to ride along/observation opportunities in the field.
