8 injured after Jeep strikes moose, collides head-on with another SUV in Shirley

SHIRLEY — Four children and four adults were injured after a Jeep hit a moose and then hit an oncoming SUV in Shirley Friday night, July 19, police say.

A Jeep Cherokee traveling south on Greenville Road struck the moose just before 9:30 p.m. before colliding with a northbound Chevy Suburban., according to a release from the Piscataquis County Sheriff’s Office. 

A 5-year-old child suffered serious injuries and was flown via helicopter to Eastern Maine Medical Center in serious but stable condition. Seven other injured people were taken to Northern Light CA Dean Hospital, including four children under nine years old.
