Fire in Milo workshop leaves 1 dead

MILO — The remains of a 76-year-old man were found in a Milo workshop after a fire early Sunday morning, June 23.

The fire was reported at 4:17 a.m. at 61 Elm Street in a garage workshop located next to a single-family home, according to the Maine fire marshal’s office.

Firefighters found the remains of a man, tentatively identified as Dwight Russell, who lived at the property, according to the fire marshal’s office. His remains were brought to the state medical examiner to confirm his identity.

The fire remains under investigation.

The Milo Fire Department was assisted by Brownville, Sebec, and Dover-Foxcroft fire departments. The Milo Police Department also assisted at the scene.
