Historical society releases Brownville Bicentennial 2024 booklets

BROWNVILLE — The Brownville-Brownville Junction Historical Society has released the Bicentennial 2024 booklet sharing information about the history of the area and businesses in the area.

The articles in the booklet were written by historical society members Lynn Gerrish, Dan Peters, Lynn Weston, Allana Washburn, and Susan Worcester. Topics include Brownville’s churches and schools, the railroads, the mills, and quarries. There are also articles about Katahdin Iron Works, Brownville’s quarries, the villages of Brownville and the Junction, and Brownville’s military heritage. The group expanded to include information about the surrounding unorganized townships which have for a long time been linked to the town of Brownville.

The booklets were funded by many area businesses, organizations and nonprofits. There are some fun facts about the area and many pictures you may not have seen before. Much of the information included in the articles in the booklet has been drawn from books and articles written by Judson and Henry Gerrish and Bill Sawtell. Design and layout of the booklet is the work of Lynn Gerrish; the bicentennial logo is the work of Suzette East. The booklets were printed by Bromar Printers of Skowhegan.

The Bicentennial 2024 booklets are available at area businesses who purchased ads to support the project in both Brownville and Milo.
