CA Dean prepares to open new hospital in February
GREENVILLE — Final preparations are underway at Northern Light CA Dean Hospital for the opening of the Buck Family Building in late February.
The electrical feed to the building was recently energized, and construction crews, and hospital staff are focused on setting up equipment and technology, installing the remaining ceiling tiles and flooring, touching up the paint, and more.
“Since we broke ground nearly two years ago, our community, patients, and care teams have followed progress on the new hospital and anticipated our opening. Now, the first patient day in the new building is almost here. One of the most modern rural hospitals in the Northeast will be accessible right here in Greenville in a matter of weeks, and we’re excited for the community to see the new space,” says Marie Vienneau, FACHE, president, CA Dean Hospital.
The main hospital building, named after lead donor Dr. Peter Buck, will house five patient rooms with acute/swing beds, a 24/7 emergency department, and imaging and lab services. A new, separate ambulance station and an FAA-approved helipad are now in operation. The existing East Wing, to be renamed the Allen Family Wing, is being renovated to include 10 additional private rooms with long term swing beds. The 15 total beds are expected to meet the community’s needs for years to come based on hospital patient census data and trends.
The hospital’s modernization remains on budget and the remainder of the project is on schedule. The Allen Family Wing will open in the spring and demolition and landscaping will continue on the hospital campus through the end of the year.
More than $6.2 million of the $27 million project is supported by philanthropy through the Preserving the Promise capital campaign, which was completed in just ten months. Hundreds of individuals, local businesses, foundations, and CA Dean team members donated to the campaign, including the late philanthropist Dr. Buck, who provided $4 million in support.
“As we prepare to open the new hospital, we thank everyone who has supported us along the way, including Dr. Buck and all of our donors, our wonderful care team that is facilitating the move into the new space, and our patients who have been kind and understanding through the construction process.”
The community is invited to tour the new hospital at an open house on Monday, Feb. 12 between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Special events for employees and donors and a ribbon cutting will be held in the following days. The hospital will be open for new patients during the last week of February.
