Celebrate the opening of Maine’s largest rooftop community solar project Thursday at Foxcroft Academy
DOVER-FOXCROFT — UGE, a community solar developer working to make renewable energy accessible and affordable for all, will be hosting a celebration for the completion of its 1-megawatt rooftop community solar project in Dover-Foxcroft on Thursday, Oct. 19 at 2 p.m. The event will be held at Foxcroft Academy’s Jim Robinson Field House, where the solar project is sited. All interested community members and press are invited to attend.
At the celebration remarks will be delivered by Arnold Shorey, head of school at Foxcroft Academy; Jack Clukey, Dover-Foxcroft town manager; Stacey Shorey, superintendent of RSU 68; and Tyler Adkins, an executive at UGE. Elijah Flint, project manager at UGE, will provide a brief educational session on the design, construction, and functioning of the project.
The Foxcroft Community Solar Project provides cheaper, cleaner electricity to Foxcroft Academy and RSU 68, the public school district serving Dover-Foxcroft, Monson, Sebec, and Charleston. The solar farm will offset more than 1,000 metric tons of CO2 each year, the equivalent generated by burning over 150,000 gallons of gasoline. Built atop Foxcroft Academy’s new 80,000 square foot field house, the project is set to become Maine’s largest rooftop community solar project. In addition to saving on electricity costs over the next 20-plus years, Foxcroft Academy will earn annual lease payments from UGE in exchange for use of the rooftop space where the solar project sits.
