Golfers take to the course for Moosehead Caring for Kids Foundation
GREENVILLE JUNCTION — On Monday, July 3 Moosehead Caring for Kids Foundation held a fundraising golf tournament and silent auction at the picturesque Mountain Village Golf Course and Clubhouse along the shores of Moosehead Lake. Thirty-two golfers competed in a 9-hole golf scramble which was followed with lunch catered by Deb Kane, owner of Gingersnaps Catering, and a silent auction of donated items by local businesses valued at over $6,000.
Tournament winners Darren and Cole Robins and Jordan and Jason Peasley each received $50 gift cards donated by Northwoods Outfitters; closest to the pin winner, Cody Tetlow with E&F Contracting, and longest drive winner, John Economy, a Mountain Village Golf member, each won concert tickets.
The event was supported by Hammond Lumber, Ware-Butler Building Supply, Northern Light Health, Camden National Bank, and additional local businesses who sponsored holes for the tournament. Thanks to the golfers, lunch guests, and auction participants as well as the very generous business sponsors who made this event a success raising over $14,000. Steve Provost, president of the HOA for Mountain Village, participated in the tournament and invited the Foundation back next year making this an annual event.
Moosehead Caring for Kids Foundation is a nonprofit 501c3 designated business that began in Greenville January 2022. The Foundation raises funds to support programs for children in the greater Greenville area. This year through a private donation funds were used to support a new summer day program for school-aged children at the Greenville Consolidated School serving over 20 children. These funds allowed for reduced tuition rates as well as participation for all enrolled children in summer recreation programs including swimming, basketball, and art classes.
The Foundation has also provided financial assistance to Little Schoolhouse Childcare for monthly staff training and for playground fencing/safety mats and outdoor swings. Working in partnership with the town of Greenville and Greenville Consolidated Schools, last year the Foundation received a Congressionally Directed Spending Grant for $1,561,000 for the construction of a proposed multi-purpose building which will house a childcare center, public preschool classrooms, and a community recreation center on the school grounds.
Moosehead Caring for Kids Foundation has an all volunteer board of directors and members including Angie Madore, Janet Chasse, Kellie Jewett, Jennifer Clark, Eva Sawtelle, Laurie Davis, and Jeri Gilbert.
