County Democrats raffling kayak to benefit Piscataquis Regional Food Center
The Piscataquis County Democrats continue their mission of helping those struggling with food insecurity. Our focus is no longer on food drives but collecting monetary donations to give to Piscataquis Regional Food Center.
This past week, we presented Kelly Sirimoglu, executive director of PRFC, a check for $400 to be used in the areas of greatest need to benefit local food cupboards. Sirimoglu gave us a tour of the facility and we were very impressed with all of the progress made. Good Shepherd Food Bank drops off food for over 18 different food providers to PRFC. Good Shepherd supplies nearly 1 million pounds of food annually to be distributed to pantries in the area.
The Dover-Foxcroft Area Food Cupboard, which is housed in this facility, is open on Tuesday and Fridays as well as the first Saturday of the month. Patrons can now shop for their food/household items by appointment (207-802-8230) and are able to choose from a wide variety of fresh produce and meats as well as baby diapers and cat food.
Sirimoglu informed us that the need is increasing and that they served 800 last month. To further support PRFC, the Piscataquis County Democrats are raffling off a Pelican Trailblazer Kayak with paddles. This kayak can be seen and tickets purchased at most of the local summer fairs at the Democratic booth. The drawing for the winner will take place at the Piscataquis Valley Fair in August. All proceeds from the raffle as well as future money will go to Piscataquis Regional Food Center to help fight hunger.
We have raised $5,850 since February 2021 for local food cupboards. Please continue to donate to our mission by sending a check to PCDC 25 North Street Dover-Foxcroft c/o service committee or at https://secure.actblue.com/donate/pcdcservice. Thank you for your support!
