Grief support group in Greenville

GREENVILLE — Grief is an experience we would rather not have. It is however one of the few experiences connecting every single human on earth. For something so common there remains mountains of avoidance from both those grieving and those wanting to help. This avoidance is understandable. People naturally avoid topics that are uncomfortable, or they know little about. People also do not like to burden others with their troubles. This often leads to becoming more isolated and alone. Pine Tree Hospice urges people to reach out and is offering programming and other resources for all affected by grief.

For those that have experienced the death of someone Pine Tree Hospice is offering an in-person grief support Group in Greenville this March through April. Trained bereavement facilitators will guide group members through six weeks of sharing, learning, and supporting one another. The group will meet every Tuesday from 1-2 p.m. for six weeks beginning March 21 and going through April 25.

Past participants have said that the most helpful part of the group was “being able to share with others,” “the openness,” and “you aren’t alone.” Participants also shared, “I feel like my old self and am sleeping better,” “We learned some different things we could do. I’m glad I came.”

Pine Tree Hospice’s best advice for someone wanting to help a friend or family member that is grieving is to follow your gut. If you feel like you should reach out, do. Becoming more comfortable about grief is helpful too. A great resource is speakinggrief.org or WPSU Grief page on Facebook, both were created by WPSU at Penn State, to create a more grief aware society.

To register for Pine Tree Hospice’s Grief Support Group or for other resources please call Pine Tree Hospice at 207-802-8078.
