Local small business owner publishes her third book ‘Gold Dust on the Highway’
GUILFORD — Keeping a small hospitality business financially afloat in central Maine is a serious challenge. Local author and Guilford Bed and Breakfast innkeeper Wendy Denney writes fiction during the slow times. For her, this means fulfilling her passion for writing and helping to offset the operational expenses that accompany the long winter slow season.
Twist and turns, potholes and frost heaves often define life’s journey. In “Gold Dust on the Highway,” Kris happens upon a stranger when she’s facing another one of her own monumental crossroads. There are risks, but the anticipation of what awaits around the next curve in the road keeps her foot on the pedal.
“Sometimes we, as a human race can sometimes get so focused on that pot of gold, that we end up completely taking the rainbow for granted.” Joe balled up the empty bag of candy. “That rainbow, when you slow down to examine it closely … may contain a little gold dust that I never paid attention to before.”
Synopsis – Oregon resident, Kris, 48, has just received distressing news about her estranged brother. What she learns has her leaving her mundane life behind in order to put things right. It also involves a week-long road trip across the country. Teetering on her own mid-life crisis, the long drive might help get her life on track. She has an idea to offset the monotony and fortuitously, she spots a hitchhiker on the side of the road. Despite the risk, it feels right. When Joe, 50, climbs into her car, an unexpected adventure begins. Two lives of complete strangers converge. Secrets are unveiled. The laws of attraction ignite. Expect one hell of a ride, and at the end of the day, their lives will never be the same.
Denney has published two other fiction books: “The Sound of a Train” (a novel) and Mr. Brownstone’s Renaissance” (a novelette). Both are available for purchase in print and Kindle formats via Amazon. Visit www.wkd-author.com for more information.
