Erickson recognized with sonography mentor award
DOVER-FOXCROFT — Lauren Erickson, a sonographer at Northern Light Mayo Hospital, was recently presented a Diagnostic Medical Sonography Mentor Award by the Maine College of Health Professions. She was recognized for providing outstanding mentorship to sonography students.
Erickson was nominated by Sabrina Wood, a recent graduate of MCHP who completed her clinical rotation at Mayo Hospital.
“Lauren has been one of my biggest supporters through ultrasound school. She has taught me so much throughout my time with her. Lauren is kind, patient, and made each clinical day exciting. She shared her knowledge of general, OB, breast, and vascular ultrasound with me. Lauren always pushed me to do my best and I will always be grateful for that. I will never forget the time that I spent at Mayo,” says Wood.
As a student, Erickson remembers the important role that mentors played in her education. Like Wood, Erickson was able to complete her clinical training close to home thanks to support from mentors.
“I am so appreciative of the technologists who took the time to teach me. They shared their knowledge and were patient with me, and I always promised I would do the same for students. I think that mentorship helps to make a quality sonographer. In sharing your knowledge and experience, you are helping to create a caring, intelligent, and quality future sonographer,” she says.
Erickson has worked at Mayo Hospital since the start of her career in sonography in 2007. She is one of two full-time, one part-time, and one per-diem sonographers at the hospital.
