Black Stream Disc Golf opens in Sangerville
Grand opening and Chamber ribbon cutting on July 23
SANGERVILLE – Starting July 15 Black Stream Disc Golf LLC of Sangerville will open to the public, offering a new recreational activity in the region. The new course is proudly owned and operated by Tom and Bonni MacDonald, a couple who have both lived and worked in the area for many years.
“Our adventure into the disc golf business began about a year ago,” recalls Bonni, “we were graciously invited by a group of friends to join their team for a charity fundraiser to support the Masons and had so much fun participating that when we finished our last hole Tom turned to me and said, ‘Our land would be perfect for something like this.’”
The MacDonalds’ long-standing desire to bring something new and fun to the area began to take form during that charity event and the couple’s first-ever round of disc-golf (think: golf with a frisbee). Tom spent the entirety of the winter laying out a course that would provide players with both a fun and challenging round of play. Course landscaping began by spring, after which each hole was marked and baskets were placed, bringing the dream into focus and the vision to fruition with each passing day. After two seasons of toil, Black Stream Disc Golf LLC was born.
Disc golf is a great way for people of all ages and skill levels to immerse themselves in nature, and partake in some fun, healthy exercise. “We hear often from locals that they would like to see more entertainment opportunities for families in our area, and visitors to our county are always looking for fun daily activities during tourism season,” said the Chamber’s Executive Director Denise Buzzelli, “I am thrilled to be able to offer this option now, it is a perfect addition to our area.”
Black Stream Disc Golf will begin as a 9-hole course with potential areas of growth in the future. The MacDonalds want it to be fun and affordable, with fees starting at $5 per person for one round of play or $15 per person for unlimited play. Customers can bring their own frisbees or rent one for $1. The course will be open daily from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., though hours are subject to change.
The Piscataquis Chamber of Commerce will hold a ribbon cutting on Saturday, July 23 at 11 a.m. at 249 Burrough Road. The grand opening will be held from 10 a.m. to noon. Light refreshments and soft drinks will be provided. Those present can enter for a chance to win exciting door prizes.
“It has brought us great joy to watch our family and friends share in our excitement for this new adventure, but none more than our grandkids,” Tom said, “our hope is that everyone will find it as much fun as we do.”
