Monson Historical Society to host pair of speakers on Saturday

MONSON – The Monson Historical Society is pleased to have two outstanding programs on Saturday, July 16 during Monson’s Summerfest activities. At 11 a.m. in the Moore Building (almost directly across from the Monson Museum) will be former Monson resident Andrew Witmer who recently published a book entitled “Here & Every Where Else.”

Witmer is an associate professor in the history department at the James Madison University in Virginia. His book focuses on the history of this small town of Monson and how townspeople had an impact on the wider world across the 19th and 20th centuries, as well as how the residents were influenced and molded by outside influences. Books are for sale at the Museum Gift Shop for $25.

The second speaker will be Carl Little who curated the “Art of Monson” exhibit as part of the Bicentennial celebration. Little will speak at the Moore building at 2 p.m. and will be discussing the display as well as many of the artists featured in the gallery. Newly added items are slate works done by Emil Carlson of Monson and also a slate clock made by Hedley Heaney, both old time residents of Monson who were very skilled in crafting these fragile items as gifts to families and friends.
