18 more Mainers have died and another 1,205 coronavirus cases reported across the state

Eighteen more Mainers have died and another 1,205 coronavirus cases reported across the state, Maine health officials said Friday.

Friday’s report brings the total number of coronavirus cases in Maine to 225,253, according to the Maine CDC. That’s up from 224,048 on Thursday. 

Of those, 163,854 have been confirmed positive, while 61,399 were classified as “probable cases,” the Maine CDC reported.

The statewide death toll stands at 2,042.

The most cases have been detected in Mainers younger than 20, while Mainers over 80 years old account for the largest portion of deaths. More cases have been recorded in women and more deaths in men.

So far, 4,313 Mainers have been hospitalized at some point with COVID-19, the illness caused by the new coronavirus. Information about those who are currently hospitalized wasn’t immediately available.

Cases have been reported in Androscoggin (21,759), Aroostook (11,456), Cumberland (46,487), Franklin (5,493), Hancock (6,915), Kennebec (21,457), Knox (5,607), Lincoln (4,919), Oxford (10,732), Penobscot (25,862), Piscataquis (2,819), Sagadahoc (4,783), Somerset (9,045), Waldo (5,752), Washington (3,929) and York (38,008) counties. Information about where an additional 230 cases were reported wasn’t immediately available.

As of Friday morning, the coronavirus had sickened 78,799,264 people in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands and the U.S. Virgin Islands, as well as caused 944,831 deaths, according to the Johns Hopkins University of Medicine.
