Three Pony girl relays place at state swim championship

CAPE ELIZABETH – Three Foxcroft Academy relay teams placed at the 2022 Class B Swimming & Diving championships at Cape Elizabeth High School on Feb. 22. The trio of squads accounted for 26 points as the Ponies tied Hall-Dale High School of Farmingdale for 14th place among a field of 19 schools recording points.

Foxcroft’s 400-yard freestyle relay team, made up of Maddy Gaylord, Izabelle Pizzo, Laney Reardon, and Dylan Coy, placed 11th with a time of 4 minutes, 45.73 seconds.

The Pony 200-yard medley relay squad came in 12th in a time of 2:17.66. The foursome was comprised of Pizzo, Olivia McCorrison, Reardon, and Elena Murillo.

The 200-yard freestyle relay team from Foxcroft finished 15th as Gaylord, McCorrison, Reardon, and Murillo combined to swim the event in 2:06.34.

Host Cape Elizabeth won the girls’ championship with a score of 338 points, edging Mount Desert Island High School by a single point. Ellsworth High School came in third with 284 points.

The boys’ state championship took place 24 hours before the girls’. The Pony boys had one point to tie Maine Central Institute of Pittsfield for 19th place.

Foxcroft’s Jesse Drury had a 16th-place performance in the 100-yard breaststroke with his time of 1:19.21

The Cape Elizabeth boys came in first place in the team’s home pool with 409 points. MDI was also second on Feb. 21 with 345 points and Greely High School of Cumberland came in third with a score of 290 points.
