Foxcroft girls finish sixth at PVC swim championship
ORONO – The Foxcroft Academy girls finished in sixth place at the 2022 Penobscot Valley Conference Swimming and Diving Championship at the University of Maine on Feb. 12. The Ponies finished the competition with 82 points to place sixth among a field of 10 schools.
A pair of Foxcroft relay teams both finished in fifth place. The 200 medley relay squad, made up of Izabelle Pizzo, Olivia McCorrison, Laney Reardon, and Elena Murillo, came in fifth in a time of 2 minutes, 18.26 seconds.
The Pony 200 freestyle relay – comprised of Maddy Gaylord, Murillo, Reardon, and Dylan Coy – was also fifth in a time of 2:03.68.
The Foxcroft 400 relay was sixth as Murillo, Pizzo, Gaylord, and Reardon combined for a time of 4:46.08.
Reardon finished eighth in the 100 butterfly at 1:15.73. Coy was eighth in the 500 freestyle at 6:35.28, and she was also 10th in the 200 freestyle in a time of 2:24.67.
In the 100 backstroke Pizzo and Gaylord were 10th and 11th with respective times of 1:15.71 and 1:18.09.
Abby Kemp had a 12th-place swim in the 100 breaststroke in a time of 1:36.94.
Mount Desert Island High School won the girls’ title with 346 points, followed by 320 for Ellsworth High School. The rest of the field was 3. Bangor High School 169, 4. John Bapst Memorial High School of Bangor 167, 5. Brewer High School 125, 6. Foxcroft 82, 7. The Old Town-Orono high school cooperative 40, 8. Hampden Academy 25, 9. George Stevens Academy of Blue Hill 14, and 10. Searsport District High School 6.
The Foxcroft boys scored five points during their competition on Feb. 11, finishing ninth among nine schools.
The Ponies’ Jesse Drury came in eighth in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:18.48.
MDI swept the PVC meets as the boys scored 310.5 points, ahead of the 270 points for Bangor.
