Registration opens for 2022 Maine Whoopie Pie Festival
Annual event set to return Saturday, June 25
DOVER-FOXCROFT — Organizers of the Maine Whoopie Pie Festival announced Tuesday that they are moving forward with plans to have the festival in person, on Saturday, June 25 in downtown Dover-Foxcroft. The festival, the largest one-day event in Piscataquis County, brings thousands of people to Dover-Foxcroft to celebrate the taste of Maine’s Official State Treat, the Whoopie Pie. The last time the festival was held in person was June of 2019, but Patrick Myers, one of the festival organizers, thinks they will be able to have the festival in person this summer.
“If we’ve learned anything, it’s not to make predictions,” Myers said, “but we are moving forward with plans to have the Festival on June 25th in downtown Dover-Foxcroft. We are optimistic that we’ll be able to hold the festival but will, of course, be listening to the recommendations of our local and state COVID experts.”
SPEED EATERS — Fourteen entrants in the kids’ 12 and under whoopie pie eating contest tried to be the first to finish three of the tasty treats during a competition as part of the 2014 Maine Whoopie Pie Festival in downtown Dover-Foxcroft. Organizers are planning for the festival to return in person for the first time in three years on Saturday, June 25.
As In years past, the festival will include live music (this year provided by the Doughty Hill Band), artists, crafters, vendors, rides, and activities for children, and tens of thousands of whoopie pies. Myers said that registrations are now being accepted for both bakers and vendors.
The Maine Whoopie Pie Festival is the largest annual fundraiser for the Center Theatre for the Performing Arts. The mission of the Center Theatre is to make arts, education, and entertainment accessible to their rural communities to engage and inspire.
