Window Dressers completes build, look forward to 2022

DEXTER — Mission accomplished! A total of 283 insulating window inserts are now snugly fitted into area churches and homes. These energy-saving, clear plastic panels were built by 102 area volunteers at the Dexter Town Hall from Oct. 14-19 by the non-profit Window Dressers. Because of their dedication, this build was completed in record time and the quality was excellent.

This year, two thirds of the clients were low-income customers who qualify for a maximum of 10 free inserts per year. Qualifying customers include but are not limited to those who receive local, state, or federal support such as LiHEAP, food stamps or rental assistance. They can be built for renters as well as homeowners. Ninety-two percent of the inserts built this year were for paying customers who want to reduce their heating bills, be more comfortable in the cold weather, and reduce their carbon footprint.

Funding for the 2021 Dover-Foxcroft (Dexter and Penquis region) Window Dressers project was provided by local contributions from local generous people and businesses, and the Commons Energy Collaborative with grants from the New England Grassroots Environment Fund (grassrootsfund.org) and Window Dressers in Rockland.

Measuring of windows for the 2022 build begins now. To find out how you may benefit from being extra cozy next winter and/or volunteer, contact Lesley Fernow at 207-992-6822 or lmfernow@rcn.com.
