$1M for mammogram services through CA Dean secured by Collins

WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine announced that she secured $1,027,000 to establish a mobile mammography service for Piscataquis and Somerset counties in the draft Fiscal Year 2022 Health and Human Services Appropriations bill that has been released by the Senate Appropriations Committee. The legislation must still be voted upon by the full Senate and House.

“Breast cancer is the second-leading cause of cancer deaths among American women, and nearly 90 percent of cases are metastatic breast cancer,” said Collins. “This critical funding would ensure patients living in rural communities can receive the quality care and support they deserve. As the appropriations process moves forward, I will continue to champion this investment to help prevent, detect, and treat all forms of breast cancer.”

If the Fiscal Year 2022 Labor and Health and Human Services Appropriations bill is enacted into law, Charles A. Dean Memorial Hospital in Greenville would use this funding Collins requested to purchase a mobile van and mammography equipment. The rural mobile mammography van will travel to rural locations in Piscataquis and Somerset counties, providing local access to mammography services.
