Greenville’s Snyder wins discus and javelin at PVC meet

The Greenville High School and Penquis Valley High School track teams both traveled to Old Town High School for a PVC meet on May 14. The Laker boys scored 27 points to finish third among a field of four schools and Penquis was fourth with a score of 17 points.

Greenville senior Matthew Snyder won both the discus and javelin. He earned top honors in the discus with a throw of 136 feet, 10 inches. Snyder came in first in the javelin at a distance of 126-05.

Sophomore Devin Lauritsen placed first in the high jump by clearing the bar at 4-02.

Laker senior Andrew Pierce was second in the shot put at 30-04.50 and third in the discus at 90-02. Freshman Gabriel Baldwin finished fourth in the 400 in a time of 1:27.94.

Penquis junior David Stone led his team with a second-place performance in the discus at 99-01. Stone also came in third in the shot at 30-01.50.

Sophomore Adam Lewis recorded third-, fourth- and fifth-place finishes. He was third in the long jump at a distance of 13-10.50, fourth in the 200 at 27.85 seconds and fifth in the 100 at 13.33 seconds.

Penquis had four other fifth-place finishes, freshman Kristain Merrill in the 200 at 28.57 seconds and shot put at 28-01.75, freshman Damion Drake in the 1,600 at 5:24.81 and senior Austin Clukey in the javelin at 87-09.

In the girls’ meet, Greenville and Penquis were third and fourth with respective scores of 27 and eight points.

Laker senior Jessica Cobb had the day’s top time in the 100 hurdles at 21.02 seconds. Cobb was also second in the 300 hurdles at 59.16 seconds and fifth in the discus at 71-04.

Greenville had second- through fourth-place finishes in the high jump. Junior Eva Patrick was second at 3-10, followed by freshman Allison Austin at 3-08 and junior Skylar Larabee at 3-06.

Freshman Lily Kreider came in third in the 200 at 35.34 seconds. Patrick was fourth in the 100 at 15.65 seconds and Austin was fourth in the 400 at 1:26.91.

For Penquis, senior Savannah Boislard came in third in the 100 in a time of 14.61 seconds. She also was fifth in the long jump at 12-11.

Freshman Layla Chai finished third in the 400 at 1:24.21. Sophomore Sky Guzy placed fifth in the 100 at 15.71 seconds.
