Different looking season for Foxcroft indoor track athletes

The Eastern Maine Indoor Track League has had to become creative to carve out an “indoor” track season for athletes in our area, EMITL Meet Director Sarah Shorette explained in an email with the first results of the season.

Thursday evening athletes taking part in the shot put will head to the Center Street Gym in Brewer to contest the event in two sessions/pods. This year there will not be team scores.

On Jan. 28 three Foxcroft Academy shot putters competed in Brewer.

Aaden Lane finished 10th among 14 boys with his throw of 31 feet, 11.5 inches.

On the girls’ side, Grace Carlson was 16th among a field of 19 at a distance of 19-03 and Makayla Landry placed 17th at 18-11.

Shorette said typically distance events will be held on Saturdays in various locations. Because this is the first time in league history that these events will often be held outside, the time, day and location will vary according to the weather forecast.

The first distance competition took place on Jan. 28 with teams running at different sites and the times compiled to determine the individual event standings. Foxcroft runners covered their laps inside Haley’s Inc. new building in Dover-Foxcroft.

Sophomore Joseph Nelson came in 15th among 18 mile runners at various sites across the EMITL region, covering the distance in 7 minutes, 14.24 seconds. Junior Aidan Curry was next in 16th place at 7:20.24.

Nelson and Curry were 20th and 21st respectively in the 800 — among 22 runners. Nelson’s time was 3:17.24 and Curry ran a 3:21.24.

Junior Kasey Howell finished 13th, among 13 entrants, in the girls’ mile with a time of 7:51.24. Howell was also 21st, among 22, in the 800 with her time of 3:33.24.

High jumpers also competed at varying sites on Jan. 29.

Pony junior Jacob Reed finished third on jumps with a height of 5-06, among 14 event entrants. Freshman Jack Kingsbury was next in fourth place as he cleared the bar at 5-02.
