Saturday’s Wilderness Sled Dog Race cancelled
GREENVILLE — It is with deep regret that organizers announce that this year’s Wilderness Sled Dog Race will be canceled, the event had been scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 1.
The race board met Jan. 26 and discussed other alternative trail routes but the bottom line was they always take pride in a safe race and there is just not enough snow on some areas of the trail. They want the public to know the decision was not taken lightly.
Greenville is still open for business, snowmobile trails are in good shape, Squaw Mountain Ski Resort is making snow and ice racers are racing on the lake … but sadly some trails run through the woods and recent rain and freezing rain did not help trail conditions.
The race board wants to thank the many volunteers that take time from their lives from near and far and corporate sponsors such as West Branch Pond Camps, Indian Hill Trading Post, Weyerhaeuser, Mountain Ridge Kennels and the Appalachian Mountain Club and many others for their continued support especially on these years of light snow and ice.
Race officials look to come back bigger and better next year on Feb. 6, 2021. For more information, please go to https://www.100milewildernessrace.org/.
