Bowerbank Days returns this weekend
BOWERBANK — Every five years Bowerbank Days returns to the community on the shores of Sebec Lake and in 2019 the festival features events in the village on the evening of Friday, Aug. 9 and throughout the day on Saturday, Aug. 10 with a theme of “We Love Bowerbank — Hook, Line & Sinkah.”
A pie sale, served until the desserts are gone, starts at 4:30 p.m. as does the Bear Point Marina food tent. Auction attendees can view the merchandise from 4:30-5:45 p.m. before the live auction of 60-plus new items starts at 6 p.m. The auction theme is “Handmade by Area Craftsmen” as some items will have values of $200-$300. Sen. Paul Davis, R-Sangerville will serve as auctioneer.
Registration for the Gary Wakeland Memorial 5K road race will begin at 7:30 a.m. at the fire station on Saturday prior to the starting gun at 8:30 a.m. T-shirts go to the first 50 to register and prizes will be awarded to various age group winners.
Entwined in Country perform from 9-10 a.m. and also at 9 a.m. registration for the ladies/mens axe throw starts.
The Bowerbank Days parade begins at 10 a.m. as the procession travels through town.
Entwined in Country perform again from 10:30 a.m. to noon. The ladies axe throw starts at 10:45 a.m., followed by the men’s axe throw at 11:15 a.m.
The Northern Grey perform from noon to 3 p.m.
The great fire department tug of war challenge begins at 12:30 p.m. as the Bowerbank department takes on other area firefighters.
Sales for raffle tickets close at 2:50 p.m. shortly before the 3 p.m. drawings and award ceremony for honors such as parade floats, axe throws and tug of war.
The mega boat parade starts at the boat launch at 5 p.m.
Throughout the day on Saturday will be clowns, kid’s games, arts and crafts vendors, food vendors, Bowerbank clothing prizes and hourly prize giveaways.
