DOVER-FOXCROFT — Come to the Mardi Gras! On March 5 General Federation of Women’s Clubs (GFWC) Miosac members were welcomed to a beautifully decorated Mardi Gras table with colorful masks, an antique Queen of Mardi Gras doll, doubloons and beads.
Program Chairman Diane Leighton introduced Foxcroft Academy Head of School Arnold Shorey who gave a very interesting and informative talk. He spoke of all the improvements for Foxcroft Academy with the help of the Libra Foundation. The one in progress will be Piscataquis County Ice Arena owned by Libra and managed by the school, it will benefit the surrounding area. Another building will be a fieldhouse available for other events.
Foxcroft Academy was selected to be an International Baccalaureate. The school is partnering with Prague and one student and one teacher will be leaving this month for an international exchange.
A part-time resource officer has been made available for Foxcroft and the SeDoMoCha and is getting along well with students.
President Suzanne Raymond called the meeting to order, thanking hostesses Anne Cress and Vicki Moschella. Moschella led the Club Collect, American’s Creed and Pledge of Allegiance.
Secretary Diane Leighton took roll call with 10 present. She then read the minutes of the last meeting with one correction.
In the absence of Treasurer Pat Jones, Raymond announced the total for the Pound Party which has been allotted to the Miosac Scholarship.
The next meeting will be March 19 with the librarian as guest speaker. Jones is program chairman and will be the hostess with Leighton and Minnie McCormick as co-hostesses.
Publicity Chairman McCormick announced that she was pleased to have the news in the Piscataquis Observer.
Trivia Night was discussed and the team will be the Mama Miosacs. Team members will be Raymond, Cress, Moschella, Emily Hutchins, Leighton and Dot Finnemore. Runners will be Wendy Hutchins and Roxy McGlauflin. Food Chairman Barb Austin reminded members of what they were to bring.
High School Art Contest Chairman Wendy Hutchins noted schools attending. The show is slated for Sunday, March 24 at The Commons at Central Hall from 1-3 p.m. The public is invited to attend and see the wonderful work the students create. Winners will go the District Art Show March 30 at Jeff’s Catering in Brewer.
Hutchins spoke briefly about the Miosac Scholarship and will add more at the next meeting.
Cress, leadership chairman for GFWC Maine, and Vicki Moschella, conservation chairman, gave reports of what they had sent to the state and international clubs.
Raymond brought a prayer shawl, members brought 19 deodorants for the food cupboard and several brought coupons for the military and box tops for SeDoMoCha.
Ice out tickets are on sale until the end of March.
Following all the business, members enjoyed delicious assorted cheese cake provided by Moschella.
