Burton Martin Hagelin Jr.

Burton Martin Hagelin Jr. died Saturday, January 19 in a tragic house fire in Orrington at the age of 51. He was born February 13, 1967 in Cleveland, Ohio to Burt Sr. and Carol (Rolland) Hagelin as the youngest of four boys. Burton moved with his family to Dover-Foxcroft in 1974 at the age of 7 to the land that his father was actually born on and had later acquired. He went to Dover-Foxcroft schools, graduating from Foxcroft Academy in 1985. He attended Beal College in Bangor, and ultimately found a career in the taxi business and at one time owned his own taxi company.

Burton enjoyed being a cabbie, and if you were ever fortunate enough to be his passenger, he would have you talking about anything and everything, and the rides would seem too short. He felt blessed meeting those who rode in his taxi and enjoyed his repeat customers. He went out of his way to help and treat every passenger like they were not just a fare, but also his friend. He was an avid computer enthusiast and enjoyed collecting and restoring old Commodore computers.

He was predeceased by his parents and is survived by his brothers Mark, David, and Tim, along with many cousins, nieces, nephews, aunts, and uncles.

A graveside ceremony at Gray Cemetery in Dover-Foxcroft is planned for May 18, all are welcome to come and share a story about Burton.
