NEW ENGLAND LONG JUMP RUNNER-UP — Penquis Valley High School senior Cymeria Robshaw, pictured with her medals as the 2019 Class B indoor champion in the 55-meters and triple jump, came in second in the long jump over the weekend at the New England championship. Robshaw’s jump of 18-08.25 was second best among 32 competitors from across the six states.
Two weeks prior Robshaw finished second in the long jump at the Class B championship — while winning the 55-meter dash and triple jump. At the state meet Orono High School senior Camille Kohtala won the long jump crown — at 18-04.75 to 18-03.75 — but Robshaw had the better performance in Boston. Kohtala would finish fifth over the weekend with a leap of 18-03.
At the New England meet Robshaw finished 13th of 30 entrants in the 55-meter prelims with a time of 7.47 seconds — the top performance from the Pine Tree State. In Maine indoor meets, Robshaw was undefeated in the sprint with this success culminating in a state championship.
Several days prior to the final meet of the indoor season, Robshaw committed to Division II Stonehill College of Easton, Massachusetts. She plans to major in biology to help prepare for a career as an orthodontist.
The runner-up performance at the New England championship follows the pair of 2019 indoor titles and two outdoor state championships for Robshaw in 2018. As a junior last spring she won both the triple and long jumps at the Class C state meet. She jumped respective distances of 34-10.50 and 17-02 in June. At the 2018 Class C championship Robshaw also came in third at 100 meters.
