‘Cap It off Campaign’ benefits Greenville Junction Depot roof

GREENVILLE JUNCTION — Thanksgiving week was a week to be thankful for the Depot. Greenville Junction Depot Friends are pleased to announce the continued success of the “Cap It Off Campaign” to have the eaves and roof of the Greenville Junction Depot building restored.

A $25,000 grant was awarded to the Depot from the Ellis L. Phillips Foundation. This foundation makes contributions for projects brought to its attention by family members. The Ellis L Phillips Foundation is a small family foundation dedicated to the ideals of Kathryn and Ellis Phillips, to identify “what needs to be done” and provide strategic investments in projects that serve as catalysts for the greater good. The Depot is pleased to be recognized as a worthy recipient of these ideals.

Weyerhaeuser Corporation has also awarded a $3,000 grant to the campaign. The company has made previous investment in Save the Depot with grants for station underpinning and asbestos removal.

The estimated cost of the roof is projected to be $70-75,000. This includes removal and disposal of rubber roofing, sheathing the roof, insulating, shingles and restoration of the eaves. Greenville Junction Depot Friends hope is to complete this phase in the spring of 2019.

Other grants previously awarded to this roofing and eaves project this year are: National Railroad Historical Society $2,500; Joseph Donahue Charitable Trust $5,000; Tom Dailey Foundation $4,000; and Massachusetts Bay RR Enthusiasts $1,000

The Depot Day Celebration garnered $5,000 and was matched by a very generous donor with another $5,000.
This makes a current dedicated total of $50,500, leaving a goal of $20,000 to “Cap it Off” come spring. Greenville Junction Depot Friends anticipate your continued support to make this important phase happen.
