Peter Eldredge

The family and friends of Peter Eldredge, Andrews Rd, Guilford and Cranberry Isles, Maine announce his passing on September 30, 2018.
Pete was born on March 26, 1947 in Brockton, Massachusetts and grew up in East Bridgewater.
Pete graduated from Bridgewater High School and went on to study art at the School of Practical Art in Boston. Pete then served as a Volunteer in Service to America (VISTA) working with Mexican immigrants in Utah. He later moved to Portland, Maine where he worked at Waynefleet School. He met his wife, Audrey Noether, and together they moved from Munjoy Hill in Portland to build a home in Guilford, Maine. Peter sketched and painted, taught art at at Greenville Elementary and High School and hand lettered signs that to this day reflect his steady hand and artistic eye. Pete loved art, music, friends, making pizza, and drawing. A quiet, unassuming man with striking blue eyes and a deep wit, Pete also worked as a house and sign painter on Cranberry Island. Pete’s large white beard, cheery smile and twinkling eyes allowed him to convincingly pass as Saint Nick each December. On August 6, 2017, Dover- Foxcroft saw the premier of the independent film, “When You’ve Got It…You’ve Got It,” written by Alan Bray and Dennis Gilbert and starring Pete, Dennis, Alan, and Juris Ubans. The film, shot on location at Spencer Pond Camps, was a testament to the deep friendship these Maine artists shared with one another.
Pete was predeceased by his brother, Luther, his sister, Sarah, and his parents, Harriet and Warren Eldredge of Massachusetts. His wife, Audrey Noether, his sister, Susan Lewis, his brothers, Warren “Chip” and Dana, and many cousins, nieces, nephews and other family members and friends will sorely miss him. A service will be held for Pete at the First Universal Unitarian Church in Sangerville on Saturday, November 10, 2018 at 4:30 PM, with a potluck dinner to follow.
