Mr Richard Carter Lee

Mr Richard Carter Lee of Glenn Dale Md., grandson of former Foxcroft Academy
principal Lyman K. Lee and Sarah French Lee, and son of Carter and Grace Louise
Brengle Lee, passed away September 5 in Maryland. Born in 1941 in Quincy
Mass., where his father, Carter Lee had served on the School Committee and in
the Massachusetts Legislature, Mr Lee had a lifelong love of Maine and Sebec Lake, which he visited whenever he could, beginning with visits to his adored grandparents, Lyman and Sadie on Main St. and to his Uncle, Richard Henry Lee at Stedman’s Landing. His sons, Andrew, Matthew and Nathaniel, spent several summers there, often visiting their Aunt, Olive Lee, at her camp on the Lake.
Dover-Foxcroft served as a happy place for reuning with the extended Lee family
and enjoying nature and peace, boating, swimming, and exploring. Picnics in his
Grandfathers Foxford Orchard, which Lyman Lee operated for 50 years, were treasured childhood memories.
Richard Carter Lee was a graduate of Quincy High School, Harvard College, B.A. Physics, and held a Masters Degree in Physics from George Washington University. Despite the loss of use of his right arm to polio when 8, Dick managed to do everything on his to-do list including playing on the HS varsity
tennis team, playing French horn in the Band, and later as a young father, giving the evening bath to 3 soap covered little sons. Later he bought a sailboat and taught his sons to sail in the Chesapeake Bay, on the Maine Coast, and at Sebec Lake.
Dick’s early career was with contractors on the Apollo Space program. He later worked for 40 plus years with the US Department of Health and Human Services where he helped pioneer a program which brought healthcare to thousands of underrepresented neighborhoods. He was the foremost national expert in his field.
Richard loved Music and sang in choirs and choruses from high school throughout his adult life, including the Harvard Glee Club, The Masters Chorale, The University of Maryland Chorus, The Hyattsville Methodist Church Choir, and the Ascension Catholic Church Choir where he also cantored. Dick’s beloved wife Beverlee introduced him to square dancing, and the two had a ball,
dressing up in appropriate costumes and learning to do-si-do with a square dance club
Richard is survived by his beloved wife Beverlee Anderson Lee, 5 children,
Andrew R. Lee (Kim), Matthew J. Lee, (Mary Beth), Bryan M. Anderson (Vickie), Nathaniel A. Lee, (Lori), and Aimee K. Harmelink (Chris); his sisters Louise Lee of Arlington Va, Frances Lee Lawrence of Laurel, MD.(Jim), and nephew Daniel Lawrence and nieces Sarah Maisel and Elizabeth Lawrence. Richard was not only an amazing husband, father, brother and uncle, but the proudest
grandfather on the planet who would burst with joy when surrounded by grandchildren Gabriel, Jennifer, Griffin, Samson, Zachary, Joshua, Leigha, Kathryn, Juliana, Alexander, and Jacob.
