Farm at Moosehead combines produce, pizza and ribs
GREENVILLE — As you drive north to Greenville, not long before you get to Indian Hill, you may have noticed a place on your right, with tidy freshly painted brown buildings and wood stacked in a style reminiscent of the artist Monet’s impressionist haystack paintings. This is The Farm at Moosehead, and as their Facebook page states, they are “a working homestead farm with naturally grown produce, eggs and pastured poultry sold in their Farm Store.”
In addition they have wood-fired pizza and scrumptious smoked baby back ribs and pulled pork.”
Ted and Dawn Willett came to this area to get away from the rat race in Massachusetts and also because of the people that live in and around Greenville. “That’s one of the reasons we moved here,” Dawn said. “It’s the quality of friends we have here that makes such a difference. We’re so fortunate.”
She and I chatted about their first months in Greenville as we sat in the store/kitchen she designed. “My husband was gone six or seven days a week during those early days and I pretty much did the farm with no farming experience,” she grinned. “It was definitely learn as you go! I actually finished the front of this by myself,” she said pointing to the brickwork on the exterior of the beautiful wood-fired oven.

THE FARM AT MOOSEHEAD — Dawn and Ted Willett recently opened the Farm at Moosehead which sells fresh produce, wood-fired pizza, ribs and pulled pork.
The Willetts opened their business this past August and the rave reviews about pizza and baby back ribs came pouring in on their Facebook page. Peter Tomao wrote this post: “Kathryn and I had the ribs tonight — they were great. We found Dawn, Ted and their family friendly and they knew their products. We will be back to try a pesto pizza “ and Kaitlyn Murphy contributed: “We are from out of town, staying at the campground, and went over to grab some pizza. The kids got to look at the farm animals while we waited and the pizza was some of the best pizza we’ve ever had! Very nice owners as well!”
There is something special about the way their pizza tastes from being wood fired. Joanne DelPozzo enthused: “Our pizza was simply amazing! Bursting with flavor and fresh ingredients, the pesto and abundant toppings made for a lasting impression. Great job Dawn and Ted! Thank you for sharing your passion with Moosehead! We are looking forward to our next pizza.”
During these autumn months, Dawn and Ted will be serving up their pizzas and baby-back ribs as usual but they also have something special to offer: a heritage breed of organically raised turkeys – just in time for Thanksgiving and the holidays. The Willetts are taking orders now – and will do so until Columbus Day weekend. “These turkeys have only been fed certified organic feed, and they get treated to fresh zucchini, squash and pumpkin. And… they’re very fond of pumpkin,” Dawn remarked.
In addition to the turkeys, the Willetts have been raising chickens for meat and eggs, and they have meat rabbits. They also raise pigs, which are really handy when it comes to cleaning out the gardens after the growing season. “Those pigs are natural foragers,” observed Dawn. “They can really clean up a garden and they also discourage deer from coming around.”
The Farm Store is open Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sunday from 9 a.m. to Noon. “Of course, this time of year if someone stops at another time and we’re there we would be glad to help them,” Dawn said. “We certainly don’t turn away customers.”
