Center Theatre releases new mission statement

DOVER-FOXCROFT — The Center Theatre for the Performing Arts recently announced that they updated their mission statement to more clearly reflect their community work.

The theatre’s updated mission is “to make arts, culture, education, and entertainment accessible to our rural communities.”

The Theatre’s Board of Directors approved the statement as they reviewed the direction of the theatre and the work it does in the community.

Cynthia Freeman Cyr, chair of the board, stated that the change came from how the theatre has grown over the past five years.

“Our previous mission statement emphasized ‘the arts’, but we have seen growth in the theatre’s educational opportunities as well as better access to newer movies and cultural programming,” she said.

“It made sense to reflect this in our mission statement as well as to emphasize the rural communities that we serve every day.”

Freeman Cyr also made clear that the word “accessible” was important in the scope of the mission and in the facility’s daily work.

“The Board of Directors and staff of the Theatre are dedicated to making the Theatre accessible to everyone,” she said. “This means not only physical accessibility, but also financial accessibility by keeping prices low and offering scholarships whenever possible, and also making sure everyone feels welcome at the Theatre through our diverse offerings. The Theatre is a place for everyone in our community.”

The Center Theatre is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. For information on Theatre programming or events, visit www.CenterTheatre.org, in person at 20 East Main St. in Dover-Foxcroft or call the Theatre box office at (207 )564-8943.
