
Penquis Higher Education Center open house Aug. 2
DOVER-FOXCROFT — Have you ever thought about going to college for a new career or just wanted to find out more about starting college locally? You are not alone. That’s why the Penquis Higher Education Center, an off-campus center of Eastern Maine Community College, is here to provide support and personal assistance to enter into a new career.
Whether you are interested in the allied health field, such as preparing for medical assisting, nursing or medical office technology, education, business, hospitality and tourism, mental health, a liberal studies pathway or many other technology fields, join a fall open house on Thursday, Aug. 2 from 3 to 5 p.m. at 50 Mayo Street. Fall 2018 semester classes begin Aug. 27.
Representatives from the Eastern Maine Community College and the University of Maine at Augusta admissions offices will be available for Maine Educational Opportunity Center for Federal Financial Aid questions and to provide opportunities to learn about current scholarship opportunities and center staff will available to meet and greet and to answer any questions. Also on hand will be representatives from Eastern Maine Development. EMDC provides access to funding and related services that helps individuals train for and find meaningful employment. With locations in four counties, including offices in East Millinocket, Dover-Foxcroft, Ellsworth, Machias and Bangor, EMDC staff works with businesses and education partners to provide workforce training that prepares people with the skills needed in today’s changing job market.
The Penquis Higher Education Center of Eastern Maine Community College is an off-campus center in Piscataquis County where people can take courses, pursue degrees, and receive all the support they need to earn a degree close to home and on schedules that fit into their family and work lives. Courses are taught by via Zoom, online or two-way videoconferencing. Academic advising, student support, computer access and adult education services are available to help support student success.
